A show where product placements make sense

Kevin Nealon hosts “Funniest Commercials of the Year: 2006” (8 p.m., TBS). For the third consecutive year, the top-10 ads have been selected by an Internet poll. But “Funniest” is not limited to the top 10. It features 55 spots in all.

Nealon makes the most of his host duties, which are limited to a few man-in-the-street gags in New York’s Times Square and general observations about commercials geared toward men and their baser instincts. Several commercials depict guys as unchanged since cave-dweller days, and several others concentrate on the lengths men will go to deceive women or obtain beer, sometimes at the same time.

¢ Cuba Gooding Jr. hosts “When Parents Are Deployed” (8 p.m., PBS), a “Sesame Street” production aimed at the more than 700,000 children under the age of 5 with a parent serving overseas.

¢ The Biography Channel is clearly the younger sibling of A&E and has been receiving some of the older network’s hand-me-downs. And “Biography” has gotten the better end of the deal. While A&E, once known for “Arts & Entertainment,” is broadcasting embarrassing junk like “Growing up Gotti,” “Dog the Bounty Hunter” and “Gene Simmons Family Jewels,” Biography has taken over “Biography” and now will air concerts patterned on the old “Live By Request” franchise.

Shot in front of a live audience, “Bio Live” combines musical performances with “This Is Your Life”-style biographical profiles. The series kicks off with “Bio Live: Lee Ann Womack” (7 p.m., Biography). Look for “Bio Live: Amy Grant” tomorrow night.
