Women’s service receives $2,500 grant

Women’s Transitional Care Services has received a $2,500 grant from Verizon Wireless, the company announced this month.

The service, which provides shelter and advocacy for abused women in Douglas, Franklin and Jefferson counties, will use the grant to help provide taxi vouchers for victims at the shelter.

The voucher program primarily will serve victims in the Orientation, Assessment, Referral and Safety program, which helps women find and keep work while with the shelter.

Verizon has donated more that $1.5 million to domestic violence programs nationwide and has donated more than 15,000 new phones for violence survivors, the company said.
