Son not allowed to attend father’s funeral

? A former soccer star accused of killing his father will not be allowed out of jail to attend a memorial service today, a judge decided Friday.

Andrew Thompson, 20, is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder in the slashing and stabbing death of Emmanuel Thompson, 48. Police said the younger Thompson told them he stabbed his father and hit him with an ax in self defense about Nov. 21.

The body was kept in a freezer until discovered by friends Dec. 4. Police found Andrew Thompson hiding in his father’s attic. Court records indicate he used his father’s credit cards after the man’s death.

Oklahoma County Judge Jerry Bass declined Andrew Thompson’s request to attend the memorial service, citing security concerns.

“Emotions could run high in this case against the defendant,” Bass said. “We just don’t know who all will show up and how they will act.”
