Fourteen Lawrence residents were to be asked to take part in a group designed to help redevelop downtown Lawrence. The City Commission had passed a resolution forming a downtown improvement committee, in which leaders such as Warren Rhodes proved to be quite active and productive.

Should Grant, Riverside, India and Kaw Valley schools in the Lawrence district be closed to save $115,000? That was the question before the school board and study sessions were planned to explore the prospects. Strong opposition was expected from patrons of the four schools.

Senior citizen groups continued to complain about County Commission executive sessions on senior citizen matters here. Several leaders said they would ask the state attorney general for a ruling on the hearing policy.
