Insurance leader takes industry post

Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger, of Law-rence, is the new president-elect of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.

Her peers elected her Sunday during the association’s winter national meeting in San Antonio.

Praeger said she was honored to serve in a leadership role.

“We will all continue to work together in our roles as state regulators to oversee the insurance industry in our respective states and protect the rights of those we all serve: the insurance consumer,” Praeger said.

Before being elected insurance commissioner, first in 2002, Praeger served three terms in the Kansas Senate and one term in the Kansas House. She also has served as mayor of Lawrence.
