Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 8, 1906: “Ward Williams was killed today in North Lawrence when a speeding train struck the wagon in which he was riding. He died instantly, doctors say, and his body was thrown some 40 feet. Witnesses say the train did not whistle for the crossing and a standing freight train obscured the man’s view at the crossing. : The Kansas University campus is falling far behind others in buildings and equipment and Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa and Minnesota are doing much better, with Michigan, Ohio and Missouri leading the way.”
