Wedding album among items left behind in rental units

The photographs show that the wedding took place in Kansas University’s Danforth Chapel. The reception was at the Castle Tea Room, 1301 Mass.

Beyond that, little is known about the wedding album Andrea Williams found a few years ago, left behind in one of her Lawrence rental properties.

“I hope they are still married,” Williams said of the happy couple shown in the photographs.

Williams put the album away after she found it, thinking its owners eventually would surface. She had forgotten about it until recently when she rediscovered the album while preparing for a garage sale.

“I thought, why not try to find the owners?” Williams said about her decision to call the Journal-World.

The photos are typical of any wedding. Among them are those of a young woman walking down the aisle with an older man, probably her father. There are family photos taken in front of the altar afterward. Then there is the traditional cutting of the white cake by the bride and groom.

Williams doesn’t remember which rental unit she found the album in. At the time, she contacted the renters who had just moved out, but it didn’t belong to them.

Andrea Williams found a wedding album, with this photo of the couple, a few years ago in one of her rental properties. She hopes to return it to the owner.

“They had no idea what I was talking about,” Williams recalled.

Williams no longer manages properties. If anyone knows whom the album might belong to or recognizes the family members in its photographs, they can contact her by e-mail at gregandi@aol.com.Finding unusual things people have left behind is nothing new for Williams and her husband, Greg Sanders, who is a part-time auctioneer.

The most unusual item Williams found was at an auction. It was a container of ashes – somebody’s cremated remains. Williams was able to find relatives of the deceased and give the remains to them, she said.

“They were pretty upset about where it was,” Williams said.

Other items have been found in storage units Sanders has been asked to clear out, as well as things left behind in apartments, just like the wedding album.

“I’ve found bronze baby booties. I’ve got a few sets of gold teeth that were left behind along with kids’ birth certificates,” Williams said. “I still have the gold teeth sitting on a mantel.”
