Temperatures to hit high 90s

Chance for rain Friday, Saturday

Find some air conditioning – temperatures will soar to 98 degrees by late this afternoon.

“It looks like another hot day in the forecast,” says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

The average high temperature for this date is 88 degrees. The record high was 109 degrees, set in 1938.

But there will be some strong breezes today, gusting 18 to 25 mph out of the south, Schack said.

And a cold front will move in Friday, bringing the chance of some wet weather for the weekend, she said.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 70 degrees, the humidity was 97 percent and winds were out of the southeast at 6 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 67 degrees. The record low was 52 degrees, set in 1928.

Overnight, the low will drop to 72 degrees by Friday morning, with Friday’s high climbing to 90 degrees, Schack said.

A cold front moves into the area Friday, bringing a chance for rain, she said.

“The best chance is Friday night and into the midday on Saturday,” she said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 70 degrees, with Saturday’s high reaching 82 degrees.
