Raiders fall 14-4 to Milton

In their first game of the American Legion World Series, the Lawrence Raiders fell to Milton, Massachusetts 14-4 late Friday night in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Raiders took an early 2-0 lead going into the third inning but quickly fell behind 3-2.

The Raiders tied the game in the top of fourth inning when Lorenzo Ricketts homered to left field, but they couldn’t keep their bats going as they failed to make a hit in the last three innings.

Lawrence struggled offensively with only four runs off of five hits compared to Milton’s 14 runs from 22 hits. The Raiders went through four pitchers in the loss: Max Ellenbecker, Daren Parker, Travis Blankenship and John Sneegas.

Milton’s Corey Pontes and John Sills led the way with three hits a piece, including Sill’s three RBI double to left field midway through the eighth inning to help seal the six-run inning for Milton.

The game was delayed more than three hours thanks in part to early morning rain.

Next up for the Raiders will be Las Vegas, Nevada at 9:30 today. Las Vegas lost to Midlothian, Virginia 8-2 in their first round game Friday.
