Suspects in stolen car lead police chase

Police arrested a Topeka man Monday night after he fled a stolen truck he was driving near 22nd and Louisiana streets.

The call began at Wal-Mart, 3300 Iowa St., around 8 p.m., where someone reported suspicious activity to police.

Police followed two suspects driving a dark-colored pickup truck to 22nd Street, where both the driver and the passenger fled on foot in different directions, police Sgt. Michael Monroe said.

The officer in pursuit of the truck then got out of his car without putting it into park, chasing the driver. His patrol car then rolled through a nearby privacy fence.

Police did catch the driver, a 37-year-old Topeka resident. But meanwhile, the passenger got back in the truck and drove off, Monroe said.

Police were still searching for the truck Monday night.

The driver was arrested on charges of possessing stolen property and for outstanding warrants. Monroe said other charges were possible.
