Hotel company fights to advertise on sheep

? A popular hotels Web site is on the lam, but not in the traditional sense.

The Dutch company Hotels.nl is covering roadside sheep with blankets sporting its logo, something a local mayor claims violates local law.

Bert Kuiper, mayor of the northern town of Skarsterlan, is trying to fine the booking company for advertising along freeways. The problem is, Hotels was perfectly willing to pay the initial $25,000 fine.

Since that didn’t prove much of a deterrent, Kuiper is trying to push the fine up to $60,000.

Hotels.nl Chief Executive Miechel Nagel said the company would respond by increasing the number of sheep it uses in Skarsterlan to 60 and changing the statement on their blankets to “Thank You, Mr. Mayor.”
