Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 11, 1906: “Busy times are ahead with a number of major meetings here, including the state Sunday School convention in early May. : ‘There has been more interest in debating among university students than in any year since I have been here,’ said Prof. E.G. Frazier. ”There is inter-fraternity debate, intercollegiate debate and many good people are getting involved. It is a healthy sign about the intellect of our young people.’ : The community is fortunate to have good people running for office this year even if there are no contests of note. Re-election is in order for many. : Many office-seekers are running on platforms calling for reform and we all are aware of the need for such in politics. : The Uncle Sam Oil Refining company has leased ground east of the old Santa Fe depot and will install a distributing plant for their local business. Receiving tanks will be placed this week and a tank wagon then will appear on the streets here.”
