Settlemier's blast, Humphreys' hurling give KU victory

? Senior Serena Settlemier pounded another home run, junior Kassie Humphreys tied a career high with 13 strikeouts, and the Kansas University softball squad earned a 2-1, 11-inning victory over No. 18-ranked Baylor on Saturday at Getterman Stadium.

Humphreys (9-12) allowed just two hits and walked one in the complete-game victory for the Jayhawks (21-18 overall, 2-4 Big 12 Conference).

The game was scoreless until the top of the 11th inning. KU’s Nettie Fierros took second base per the tie-break rule and moved to third on Jessica Moppin’s sacrifice bunt. With one out, Settlemier blasted her 17th homer of the season – the second-most in the nation – and 39th of her career, both KU records.

The Bears scored in the bottom of the 11th after Chelsi Lake scored from third on an error by Fierros. With a runner on second and one out, Humphreys fanned the last two batters to end the game.

Lisa Ferguson (13-9) struck out nine, gave up seven hits and walked nine in 11 innings.

KU and Baylor will wrap up the series at noon today.
