Douglas County Family and Community Education in cooperation with K-State Research and Extension Family and Consumer Sciences is offering a program “Using Sense to Save Dollars – Energy Conservation” at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Deal Six Auditorium at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2110 Harper St.

The program will be presented by Trudy Rice, Douglas County Extension director. She will offer tips on how to save on energy bills.

To register, call the Extension office at 843-7058. The program is open to the public.

The February meeting of the Pioneer 4-H Club was at the Rudmans’ house. Mark Yehle, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll by naming a U.S. president and what he was remembered for. Quentin Capra gave the treasurer’s report. Kayla Blevins, reporter, announced that she submitted articles to the Baldwin Signal and Lawrence Journal-World.

Sam Wilson and Mark Yehle discussed the county council meeting. They announced the following events: Lawn & Garden Show, March 4-5; 4-H Horse Clinic, April 1-2; and County 4-H Camp, June 3-6.

Katelynn Pratt, Claire Blevins and Kayla Blevins, members of the Food Fair Chorus, took top purple in county and regional competition. Elizabeth Rudman and Allyssa Rudman gave project talks.

Stull Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. April 4 at the home of Joyce Radtke. The lesson will be “End of Life Decisions.” Members are to bring a nonperishable food item for donation.

The Meadowlark 4-H Club had parents night March 14 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. The parents were responsible for the meeting and program.

John Pendleton, father of Margaret Pendleton, presided during the meeting. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite NCAA basketball team. The club sang “Happy Birthday” to members who celebrated a birthday in March. Members were thanked for their work at the Lawn and Garden Show and reminded that county camp registration is due Monday.

Club members are collecting nonperishable food items and will bring items to the next meeting. The goal for Douglas County 4-H members is to collect 4,000 items by September.

Members were reminded of the upcoming events: Discovery Days, May 30-June 2; and county camp, June 3-6.

For the program, Drew and Blake Fox talked about the Douglas County 4-H Food Fair.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. April 11 at the fairgrounds. Host will be the Evans family. A committee will meet to discuss a club trip at 6 p.m. before the meeting.
