The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met Sept. 6 in the Deal Six Auditorium.

Myrna Hartford, president, announced that national FCE Week will be Oct. 9-15.

The northeast area meeting for FCE Council officers and EPC committee members will be Nov. 3 in Manhattan.

The “Eat Five Fruits and Vegetables A Day” banner made by FCE members received a purple ribbon at the Douglas County Fair.

Judy Wulfkuhle reported that the fall festival will be Oct. 21 in Building 21 North at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Joyce Pierce will give the program “A Fun Game Show.” There will be a potluck salad luncheon.

Darlene Bright reported the next American Red Cross blood drive will be Oct. 20 at First Christian Church. Stull and Willmyra FCE units will each furnish five dozen cookies.

Hartford was nominated for the “Heart of FCE” award and Racheal Purvis was nominated for the “Outstanding FCE Family” award.

Agent Susan Krumm announced there will be a free two-hour seminar “What’s Cooking With Diabetes” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 6 at the fairgrounds. It is open to the public. For more information, call 843-7058.

Hartford announced there will be a “Character Counts” program again this year, the theme is “Fairness.” The program is open to fourth-grade students. Any fourth-grade student or fourth-grade teacher interested in the project should contact Hartford at 843-0901.

The next FCE council meeting will be Nov. 8 in Deal Six Auditorium.
