The August meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club included a report from community leader Mary Berg.

She thanked the members who volunteered at the Douglas County Fair. She also recognized members for their achievements during the fair. Berg said the 4-H Council was taking orders for the Kansas State 4-H Centennial Cookbook.

The club will elect officers at Monday’s meeting.

¢ Four Douglas County 4-H members competed at the Kansas State Fair Livestock Judging Contest on Aug. 27. The team consisted of Wesley Callahan, Baldwin; Kaleb Horne, Baldwin; Casey Davis, Tonganoxie; and Luke Wempe, Lawrence. The team won fourth place overall. It also placed in the beef judging division.

Individually, Davis placed second in the reason division and fourth in the sheep division. Horne placed second in the hog division, and Wempe placed first in the beef division.

The team was picked from the top four competitors at the Douglas County Fair Livestock Judging Contest.

¢ Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Beverly Bourque. Mary James will give the lesson “A-B-C Fall Garden With Me.”
