East meets Midwest at Japan Festival

? The Heart of America Japan-America Society and Japan Festival Committee are sponsoring the Eighth Annual Greater Kansas City Japan Festival at Johnson County Community College.

Festival events, which will be from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 8 and noon to 6 p.m. Oct. 9, will offer entertainment, demonstrations and workshops featuring Japanese performing arts and culture. They’ll include a traditional tea ceremony, bonsai, sumie/black ink drawing, origami, Japanese language, Japanese martial arts and child-friendly activities, as well as traditional Japanese performances.

Traditional Japanese food will be available Saturday; snacks and sweets will be sold both days.

Tickets are $6 for adults, $3 for students and children, free for children under 3, and $10 for a two-day pass, available at the Carlsen Center box office, (913 ) 469-4445.
