Retirement center offering seminars

Brandon Woods Retirement Community this week will conduct a seminar designed to help people understand the changing Medicare landscape.

Brandon Woods has scheduled a seminar, “Helping Your Parents Navigate the Medicare Maze,” for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the retirement community, 1501 Inverness Drive.

Among the scheduled presentations:

¢ “A Medicare Guide – the A’s and B’s of Medicare Coverage,” by Steffany Brosa, the retirement community’s director of social services. She will discuss the differences between Medicare A and Medicare B, and when each program applies.

¢ “Charting Your Course – Medigap & Long-Term Care Insurance,” by Sandy Praeger, Kansas insurance commissioner.

She will discuss how Medicare Part C makes covered health services available through private HMOs or PPOs, and help people learn how to evaluate long-term health care plans.

¢ “A New Path – Understanding the New Medicare Prescription Benefit,” by Katie Glendening, coordinator for Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas. She will discuss how the program works, who is eligible, what differences there are from Medicare-approved discount drug cards, when penalties apply and what choices are available.
