Haskell facing off with giant-killers

? Texas College’s football team is flying high, and the Steers have Haskell Indian Nations University next for homecoming.

Kickoff will be at 4 p.m. today at Steers Stadium.

Texas College did something Saturday that no Central States Football League team ever had done. The Steers stunned Northwestern Oklahoma State, 27-21, handing the Rangers their first loss to a league team.

Since the league was formed five years ago, Northwestern had been 31-0 against conference opponents. Five of those victories were lopsided decisions over Haskell, including a 54-2 triumph two weeks ago.

Haskell is coming off an impressive 36-0 victory over Southwestern Assemblies of God U. during its homecoming on Saturday. Texas College (3-4) belted the Fightin’ Indians, 56-14, last season in Tyler.

The Indians (3-5) will play their final home game Saturday against Peru State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Haskell Stadium.
