N.W. development plan on table

Planning commission agenda highlights ¢ 7 p.m. today and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday ¢ City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets

Bottom line

Planning commissioners at their Monday meeting will consider a series of rezonings and a development plan for the property north of Sixth Street between Wakarusa Drive and Folks Road.

Background

The property, which is just south of Free State High School, contains 43 acres that would be used for a mix of residential and commercial development. The development, called Bauer Farm, would incorporate some new urbanism designs that attempt to make developments have a more traditional neighborhood feel. But new urbanism projects also typically call for higher-than-normal population and building densities.
