Goals plentiful for KU in rout

? Kansas University’s soccer squad earned a Big 12 Conference rout, beating Texas Tech, 4-0, Friday night.

Senior Caroline Smith, junior Holly Gault, senior Kim Karfonta and freshman Missy Geha each scored a goal for the Jayhawks (8-5-2 overall, 4-2-1 Big 12).

Karfonta’s two career goals have come against Texas Tech. She celebrated her goal by performing a back flip.

“We scored four very good goals and finished our chances extremely well,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “A lot of people were able to get in the game and contribute today.”

Sophomore Afton Sauer (2), junior Lacey Novak, sophomore Emily Strinden and freshman Sara Rogers tallied assists.

Freshman Julie Hanley and senior Erin Ferguson combined to shut out the Red Raiders. Hanley started the match and recorded three saves. Ferguson played the final 30:02 and made three saves.

KU will travel for a 2 p.m. game Sunday at Colorado.
