Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 27. 1905: “A blast at an excavation site opposite the post office in Kansas City today forced tons of mud and rock out horizontally, killing one man and injuring about a dozen others, who required medical treatment. : The Associated Charities room in the old court house will be open tomorrow for the first time to help assemble Christmas-time material to aid the needy. The old court house has been reserved for all the winter as a site to help having in difficult times. :There are rumors that the university football team is not up to playing Missouri in Kansas City on Nov. 30 but the players and coaches laugh off the usual rumors. : Carnegie who made possible our library reportedly has given away $139 million in his lifetime and has more than that amount left. Does anybody suppose one man can earn that much money honestly in one lifetime?”
