Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 24. 1905: “The university football game with Kansas State here tomorrow will be quite a challenge because Kansas is short of its top people due to injuries. The Farmers have made an enviable record this season and hope to cap it off with a victory over KU. : It is hard to realize that the telephone became an instrument of general public use 28 years ago. It seems we have had it forever. : What a nasty, disagreeable night last night was. However, the Salvation Army was out on the streets and had services and then knelt in the rain to pray. : Postmaster General Cortelyou is said to be preparing to put postmasters under civil service rules. Cortelyou is so cold he would freeze an iceberg harder. He cares not at all for public consideration or the people who work under him.”
