Man shot after firing at postal carrier

? Police shot and critically wounded a man Friday after he fired at a postal carrier and pointed a gun at officers and postal inspectors dispatched to the carrier’s route.

Police said the man, whose name was not released, was listed in critical but stable condition.

The postal carrier told police he was delivering mail around 3 p.m. when the man fired a handgun at him. While the postal carrier called for help, he said, the man went into a house.

Police said the man came out of the house carrying a gun after officers and postal inspectors arrived. The officers fired, and the man went back inside the house.

After a short standoff, the man again left the house. He then was taken into custody and taken to a hospital.

The mail carrier was not wounded, but he was taken to a hospital for treatment of chest pain.
