Girl Scout Troop 640 collected items for the Lawrence Humane Society from March 30 to April 14. The troop delivered the items — which included litter, food, detergent, toys and money — on April 27. Members of the troop are Taylor Cole, Katherine Corliss, Taylor Givens, Alexis Griffith, Erin Ice, Amy Meyers, Kristen Miller, Hannah Moore, Marley Sutter, Sarah Watkins and Trisha Young. Sarah Corliss is the troop leader and Lisa Miller is the assistant leader.

Cub Scout Pack 3370, chartered to the Deerfield PTA, participated in the annual Scouting for Food program April 23. Scouts collected food and delivered it to the Salvation Army, 10th and New Hampshire streets. Those who participated were Logan Dedloff, Eli McCleary, Lane Nations, Matthew Meske, Blake Murray, Kenneth Palmer, Alex Doktor, Brendan Phillips, Joseph Miller, David Neff, Brandon Wilson, Taylor Tomoaszewski, Stephen Fulton, Alex Houston, Nick Pippert, Hunter Dedloff, Jamie Braden, Tyler Hanson and Nathan Lassley. The pack’s participation was coordinated by Margaret Townsend.

Several adult leaders finished their Boy Scout leaders training course May 1 after their second weekend of camping at Camp Bromelsick. The leaders and their units are: Harold Aiken Jr., Troop 61; Allyn Denny, Troop 52; Doug Fay, Troop 59; Penny Hodge, Troop 59; Mike Shambaugh, Troop 53; and Jason Welch, Troop 60.

Members of Venturing Crew 2691, chartered to the Lawrence Wesleyan Church, have participated in rifle and scuba training.

The crew participated in training and range firing with rifles and shotguns at the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge on Jan. 29. The range firing was supervised by Capt. Schuyler Bailey of the Kansas University Public Safety Office, who also is an adult scout leader. The youth members received training in handling and firing rim fire and center fire rifles as well as shooting clay targets with shotguns. Youths participating were Bill Berkowitz, Jack Berkowitz, Justin Deaver, Tristan Wagner, Will Sharp, Pete Tuttle and David Long. They were accompanied by adult leaders Glen Sharp, David Berkowitz, Bruce Wagner, Herb Tuttle and Wayne Deaver. Also attending was Marine Cpl. Tristan Desetti, a former Scout who assisted Bailey.

The crew attended scuba training, conducted by Blue Planet at Stockton Lake in Missouri, from April 30-May 1. Seven youths were certified as open water divers and one youth and one adult were certified as scuba qualified. The crew is preparing to attend Sea Base National High Adventure in the Florida Keys from June 26 to July 3. Youths attending were Will Sharp, Pete Tuttle, Cameron Hershiser, David Long, Henry Reiske, Tristan Wagner and Justin Deaver. They were accompanied by adult leaders Glen Sharp, Herb Tuttle and Wayne Deaver.
