Warm and windy this afternoon

It’s a great March day to go fly a kite — strong winds and temperatures in the mid 70s are headed to Lawrence, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“It looks like a breezy afternoon,” Schack said.

Lawrence was one of the warmest spots in the region this morning. At 8:30 a.m., the temperature was 58 degrees, with a 20-mph south wind, gusting to 28 mph.

Temperatures will climb into the mid 60s by noon, Schack said. Today’s high will reach 75, with 15- to 25-mph southerly winds, gusting up to 35 mph.

“Despite the fact that we have clouds in the forecast all day today, we have a dry forecast,” Schack said.

However, a cold front will push into Lawrence overnight, bringing a slight chance for some precipitation in the early morning hours, she said.

“Any showers will be scattered and light,” she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 49. Wednesday’s high will be 65, with northwest winds 15-20 mph, she said. There’s also a slight chance for a shower duriing the day on Wednesday, she said.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy, with the morning low starting at 41 degrees, climbing to 58 by Thursday afternoon.
