Anderson sparks Royals

? Brian Anderson pitched one-hit ball over four innings, and Terrence Long and Joe McEwing each drove in two runs, leading Kansas City to a 5-2 victory over Seattle on Friday.

Seattle’s Ichiro Suzuki tripled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 15 games, tying a franchise spring training record set by Ken Griffey Jr. in 1989.

Anderson struck out three, walked one and may have pitched his way out of Kansas City. The left-hander’s $3.25 million salary would seem like a bargain to most teams, but the Royals could save even more by trading Anderson and replacing him with Jimmy Gobble in the rotation.

“I know today is a showcase,” Anderson said.

Among the lefty’s strikeout victims was Suzuki, called out on a check-swing in the first inning. It was Suzuki’s first strikeout in 50 plate appearances this spring.

The Royals took a 1-0 lead in the second when Angel Berroa hit a one-out single to right and scored on McEwing’s blooper to right.

Kansas City stretched the lead to 4-0 in the fifth, thanks in part to two Seattle errors. McEwing reached on a throwing error by third baseman Scott Spiezio, then stole second. Alberto Castillo walked, and Long hit a soft, two-run single over a drawn-in infield.

Calvin Pickering followed with a broken-bat chopper, which reliever Ron Villone threw into center field while attempting a force at second. Long scored on the error to make it 4-0.

Dan Wilson hit an RBI double off the wall in the eighth to score Willie Bloomquist.
