John Louis ‘Jay’ Beaty, Lawrence

Memorial services for John Louis “Jay” Beaty, 81, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Private inurnment will be later in Faulkenberry Cemetery in Groesbeck, Texas.

Mr. Beaty died Sunday, March 20, 2005, at Midland Hospice of Topeka.

He was born May 4, 1923, in Clyde, Texas, the son of L.C. Jr. and Vera Park Beaty. He moved to Lorenzo, Texas, and graduated from Lorenzo High School.

Mr. Beaty served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a lease operator in oil field production for Cities Service and later for Oxy Petroleum for 49 years. He moved to Lawrence seven years ago after living in Lamesa, Texas, for 49 years.

He married Evelyn Willard on May 21, 1942, in Petersburg, Texas. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Gail Ellis, Lawrence; a brother, Bill, Santa Anna, Texas; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Dennis Wayne in 1950 and David Louis in 2000.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary.
