After two full days of deliberation, a Douglas County jury still did not have a verdict late this afternoon in the murder trial of Kansas State University professor Thomas E. Murray.

Jurors recessed just before 5 p.m. and were to continue their deliberations again at 9 a.m. Thursday in Douglas County District Court.

“It’s not unusual that they would take their time to reach a decision on a case of this magnitude,” said Angela Wilson, assistant district attorney.

Murray is charged with one count of first-degree murder in the November 2003 beating and stabbing death of his ex-wife, Carmin D. Ross in her home north of Lawrence.

At midday, court officials were ordering in sandwiches for the jurors’ lunch, as the 12-member panel continued into its second full day of reviewing evidence.

Family members and reporters continued to wait today for the verdict throughout the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center.
