Laura King, Lawrence, made the spring dean’s list at Texas Christian University, Forth Worth, Texas.

The annual Lecompton High School alumni banquet will at 6 p.m. June 18 at the old Lecompton High School gym. There will be a social hour at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6 p.m. The cost is $15 per person.

Alumni and guests are invited. Honored classes will be 1925, 1935, 1945, 1955, 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995 and 2005.

The Lecompton School District merged with Perry after 1970 to create the current Perry-Lecompton School District.

Vantino Peaches, a Lawrence High School graduate, has received a President’s Award scholarship to attend the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, Ohio. Peaches received the scholarship after entering an art portfolio competition. Peaches plans to attend the college in the fall and major in illustration. He is the son of Patrick and Nadine Peaches, Lawrence. He was an art student of Wendy Vertacnik.

Natasha Riggins graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville, Pa., on May 15. She graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and English. She will pursue a graduate degree in strategic communications. She is the daughter of Bill and Stacy Riggins, Lawrence.

Merry Chadwick, Lawrence, is traveling to Norway for a three-week concert tour. She is a sophomore at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minn., where she is a member of the St. Olaf Band. She performs with the oboe section.

Annie Kettle, Lawrence, a St. Olaf College sophomore, also is traveling to Norway and performing with the St. Olaf Band and St. Olaf Orchestra. She plays the horn.

Normandy Karaffa, Lawrence, made the dean’s list for the spring 2005 semester at Rainy River Community College, International Falls, Minn., by earning at least a 3.25 grade-point average.

Heather Brown, a Kansas University senior in music education, received the $1,500 Elin J. Stene Music Scholarship from the Lawrence Alumnae and Patroness chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota.

Eleanor Allen, founder of Lawrence Suzuki Talent Education, celebrated her 90th birthday on Sunday with her children, who provided a meal, music and entertainment. Her children are Bob and Teresa Allen, Lawrence; Marian Allen, Maine; Burt and Chris Allen, Louisiana; and Don and Louise Hough, Tennessee. Eleanor also has five grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Eleanor continues to teach violin at her studio in Lawrence.

Tianna Dunnaway, Lawrence, will participate in the Nationals’ 2005 Miss Jr. Teen Kansas City pageant on Sunday. Tianna was selected to participate after submitting an application and participating in an interview session.

Ali Dankenbring, Lawrence, is among 40 high school students who recently received a scholarship from Hy-Vee Inc. Dankenbring received a $1,000 award because of her academic achievements and demonstrated interest in school and community activities. She works at the Hy-Vee Food Store at Clinton Parkway and Kasold Drive.

Nicole Jones, Lawrence High School graduate; Lauren Fry, Free State High School graduate; and Lauren Tate, Perry-Lecompton High School graduate, received scholarships from the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. The selection was based on academic performance, extracurricular and community involvement and the desire to pursue a medical career.

Kondja Kamatuka, Lawrence, received a scholarship at Pittsburg State University for the fall 2005 semester. She received a $1,500 music scholarship. Kondja is the daughter of Ngondi and Louisa Kamatucka, Lawrence.

Francisco Toledo, Lawrence, made the dean’s list at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, by earning at least a 3.5 grade-point average.

Dhwani Shah, daughter of Naina Shah and Kiran Shah, Lawrence, graduated with high honors from Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh, N.C., on May 28. She was named a 2005 National Merit Scholar and Outstanding Student of the Year in advanced placement chemistry. Dhwani plans to attend Princeton University in the fall.

Jeannie Jones, Lawrence, made the dean’s list at Barton College, Wilson, N.C., by earning at least a 3.3 grade-point average.

Katherine Carttar, Lawrence, has graduated cum laude from Boston College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and economics.

Washburn University students William Brubaker, Tymber Dhans and Lindsee Hastings, all of Lawrence and members of the Washburn choir, recently participated in a concert tour of South Africa. They were among a group of 59 people who also visited cultural and nature sites May 21 through June 2.

Brubaker is a freshman majoring in music, with a concentration in instrumental music performance. Dhans is a sophomore majoring in philosophy. Hastings is a senior majoring in social work.

William Jewell College students Abbey Patterson and Christy Wheeler, both of Lawrence, were recognized during the school’s Honors Convocation. Patterson received the Grace E. Dunn Scholarship. Wheeler received the Pauline Riddle Organ Award.
