¢ The Douglas County Court Appointed Special Advocate program is looking for volunteers to participate in a summer training session beginning June 14. CASA volunteers advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children who are under the protection of the court. Volunteers will develop a relationship with a child in need of care, and gather information from parents, foster parents, teachers and caseworkers. Volunteers will also make recommendations to the court and monitor the situation until the child finds a safe, permanent home. Volunteers must be 21 years of age and willing to commit to a case for a minimum of a year and undergo a background check. For more information, contact Executive Director Kerry Gaines at 832-5172, e-mail casa@douglas-county.com or go online at www.orgsites.com/ks/douglascountycasa.
