Tennis tourney in town

Kansas University will play host to the 2005 Intercollegiate Tennis Assn. Summer Circuit, which runs Saturday through Monday at Robinson Courts.

The event, presented by the United States Tennis Assn., will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday and run all day. Action resumes at 9 a.m. Sunday, with semifinals and finals starting at 9 a.m. Monday.

The men’s and women’s divisions will consist of a draw of 32 players. The top four seeds for the women’s draw are Liza Avdeeza of KU, Shannon Brown of Marshall, Brianna Knue of Illinois and Erika Josbena of Missouri. The top four men’s seeds are Brett Brinkley of Marquette, J.P. Ritchie of Iowa, Sean McMannis of Saint Louis and Bart Von Monsjou of Iowa.

KU’s Brittany Brown, Ashley Filberth and Stephanie Smith will play singles. Avdeeza will pair with Brown, and Filberth with Smith, in doubles.
