CLAREMORE, OKLA. ? Going for consecutive victory No. 13 turned out to be unlucky for the Lawrence Raiders on Sunday, as they fell to the host team, 9-6.

Lawrence took an early 2-0 lead, but Claremore responded with five combined runs in the second and third innings off Raiders starter Jake Hoover.

“Jake left some pitches up, and Claremore took advantage,” Raiders coach Kevin Tucker said. “We never really battled back until the seventh inning.”

Trailing 9-4, Lawrence plated a pair of runs in the final inning and put the tying run at the plate, but a flyout ended both the rally and the game.

Will Falk paced the Raiders’ offense with a double and two RBIs. Cory Cooper added a single and RBI, and Brett Lisher tripled in the loss.

The Raiders defeated the same Claremore team, 10-5, Saturday night.

Tucker said overall the weekend road trip was a success.

“We played outstanding this weekend,” Tucker said. “We scored 41 runs in four games, played good defense and just lost to a good team on Sunday.”

The Raiders defeated Chanute; Oologah, Okla.; and Claremore to finish the three-day stretch with a 3-1 record.

Lawrence (25-6) will play host to Topeka 74 at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Free State.
