Temperatures to hit upper 80s

Get ready for a series of textbook summer days — skies will be mostly sunny and temperatures will climb into the upper 80s and low 90s.

“There’s no change in the weather pattern until next week,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Schack said the weather radar showed nothing developing in the Lawrence area this morning, with thunderstorms and showers staying mostly to the south.

At 8:30 a.m., Lawrence’s temperature was 72 degrees, with 6-mph winds from the southeast. Today’s temperature will top out this afternoon at 89 degrees, with southerly 5- to 10-mph winds, Schack said.

Overnight, skies will be mostly clear, with the low dropping to 66 by early Friday morning. Friday’s high will reach 91 degrees by the afternoon.

Saturday will be a little warmer, with the low starting Saturday morning at 69 degrees, climbing to a high of 93 by Saturday afternoon. Winds will be 5 to 10 mph from the southeast.

Schack said there’s no chance of wet weather in the forecast until the middle of next week, when remnants of Hurricane Dennis could bring storm clouds up through the southern states into the Plains.
