Emergency calls

  • Lawrence firefighters spent much of Monday fighting a stubborn fire that caused $90,000 damage to a house at 2626 Manor Terrace.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical first responded to a fire at the house at 8:57 a.m. The fire started at a recessed ceiling light and burned into the attic, Division Chief Rob Kort said. Firefighters removed some hot insulation as they extinguished the blaze.

The fire in the attic rekindled, however, and firefighters were called back to the house at 3:32 p.m. Firefighters fought the fire the rest of the afternoon and evening, and one fire unit was expected to remain overnight, Kort said.

No one was injured in the fire. Kort said occupants Calvin and Jean Flory were receiving assistance from the Douglas County Chapter of the American Red Cross and spent Monday night at a motel.

  • A report of Sunday calls was not available from Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical.
