Winter weather advisory issued
Freezing drizzle and foggy conditions have led the National Weather Service to issue a winter weather advisory for tonight for the Lawrence area.
Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist, said the biggest problems this afternoon were sidewalks and parking lots where snow and ice from last week’s storm hadn’t melted, but froze over again.
Latest forecastSchack said freezing drizzle and fog would continue over most of the region into the morning hours. The winter weather advisory is in effect until 10 a.m. Tuesday.
“So far, it’s just been freezing drizzle. It shouldn’t turn into freezing rain,” Schack said. She said foggy conditions have been reducing visibility to less than a mile.
By 4:15 p.m., the temperature had fallen to 33.
“As we go into the evening, we’ll drop below freezing,” Schack said. Overnight, the temperature is expected to fall to 25 by early Tuesday morning. Tuesday’s high is expected to be 34, with a chance for drizzle and freezing drizzle.
