Oklahoma surges late to rout A&M

? When Leah Rush gets going, she doesn’t even realize how much she’s scoring.

The sophomore forward scored 17 points, Dionnah Jackson added 14, and Oklahoma used a pair of second-half runs Sunday to put away Texas A&M, 73-53.

Lauren Shoush and Beky Preston each scored 12 as Oklahoma (9-4, 1-1 Big 12 Conference) avoided its first 0-2 start in Big 12 play in six seasons.

Oklahoma got inside and exploited a weakness in the Aggies’ defense. The Sooners scored 30 of their 73 points from inside the paint and added another 30 from the free-throw line.

“A&M is a team that plays very tight and up on you,” Rush said. “That opens up a lot of room for driving to the basket, backdoor (cuts) and that sort of thing, so we tried to work with that.”

The Aggies (9-3, 0-2), who averaged 18.2 fouls during their first 11 games, committed 30 fouls against the Sooners.

Katy Pounds scored 16 to lead Texas A&M, which rallied to within 67-53 but could get no closer.
