Winter storm expected for Tuesday

Lawrence escaped freezing temperatures and icy conditions this morning. But a wintry mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow is expected Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday, says Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Today, Lawrence had received about 1.13 inches of rain by about 11:30 a.m.. But the morning temperature remained above the freezing mark, so road conditions weren’t as treacherous as they could have been.

The rainy weather will persist throughout the day, possibly changing over to light freezing drizzle tonight, she said.

“It’s not until Tuesday that we get some problems,” she said.

More precipitation is expected beginning about noon Tuesday, bringing a mix of rain, freezing rain, sleet and even snow through Wednesday, she said. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather watch for Tuesday through Wednesday.

Tuesday’s high is expected to be 33, with northerly winds 8-14 mph. Tuesday’s overnight low is expected to fall to 29. Wednesday ‘s temperature is expected to fall to 24 by the afternoon, she said.
