KU announces record spring enrollment

For the second straight year, Kansas University has set a record for spring enrollment.

There are 27,890 students enrolled at the university this spring, according to official totals released today. That’s up 118 students from spring 2004.

“KU makes a concerted effort to see that our students succeed, particularly during their freshman and sophomore years, when staying the course each semester is so important,” Chancellor Robert Hemenway said in a statement. “These numbers reflect our success with retention as well as the fact that KU continues to be a popular choice among students in and outside of Kansas.”

The KU totals include 25,379 students on the Lawrence campus, up 31 students from 2004, and 2,511 students at the Medical Center, up 87 from last spring.

Overall, enrollment at the six state universities is up 0.3 percent, to 82,275, according to the Kansas Board of Regents.
