KU announces gift for multicultural center

The donor for a new Multicultural Resource Center at Kansas University has been announced.

The Sabatini Family Foundation has contributed $1 million to the effort, which will construct a 7,000-square-foot addition to the Kansas Union for diversity education and other efforts.

The foundation made the pledge in 2004 but the announcement was withheld until all $2.7 million for the facility was secured, KU officials said. In addition to the foundation’s gift, funding will be provided by $1.5 million in student fees and $200,000 in university funds.

Plans call for groundbreaking in August or September, with the facility complete by fall 2006.

The Sabatini family includes Frank C. Sabatini of Topeka, who earned degrees from KU in 1955 and 1957; his wife, Judith; and their sons Marc, Matt, Michael and Dan. Michael Sabatini and Dan Sabatini also are KU graduates.
