Boys clip Wetmore; girls ripped, 58-18

? Scott King’s runner with eight seconds left gave Seabury Academy a 33-31 boys basketball victory Monday night at Wetmore.

In what Seahawks coach Marcus Heckman called an “ugly” game, the victory was all that mattered.

“It was not at all a pretty game,” he said. “It was definitely a game where you have to walk away and say a road win is a good win.”

The game-winner was set up by Matt Parker, who drew praise from his coach in the win.

Of his four second-half assists, the final dish went to King after Parker drew defenders and cleared some space for his teammate.

Parker also added four points, and Adam Davis led the Seahawks with 10.

Seabury (6-11) will play at home tonight against Marais des Cygnes.

Wetmore — After scoring just six points in the first half, Seabury was hammered by Wetmore.

Laura Frizell poured in 14 points for the Seahawks, but had very little help as Seabury slipped to 7-10 on the season.

“Basically, we got outplayed,” Seabury coach Nick Taylor said. “We didn’t start off very well, had a little better fire in the third quarter, but basically we met a very good team and we weren’t up for the challenge.

“My girls never gave up, so that’s one good positive out of the whole deal.”

Seabury will attempt to rebound tonight, playing host to Marais des Cygnes.
