Eagles soar against Flint Hills

? Veritas Christian earned a convincing 65-40 boys basketball victory over Flint Hills in part because of its three-point shooting.

Flint Hills successfully limited the Eagles’ inside game on offense, so they switched to outside shooting Friday night.

Veritas coach Doug Bennett said his team typically hadn’t relied on perimeter shooting this season, but he was pleased with the Eagles’ 8-for-16 shooting beyond the arc.

“All season long, we never really came out and hit threes, but tonight we were 8-for-16, and that gives us a lot of confidence in the last week-and-a-half before state,” Bennett said.

Casey Woods was perfect on all three of his three-point shots, and Paul Kempf chipped in three more of his own off of eight attempts.

Veritas needed its sharp shooting from the outside to counter its difficulty rebounding. The Eagles were outrebounded 31-16. Their defense tightened in the third quarter to limit Flint Hills to only five points, and they forced 30 turnovers for the game.

Veritas (11-6) will face Topeka Cair Paravel at 7:30 tonight in Tecumseh Gym at Haskell.
