KANSAS CITY, KAN. ? A man was sentenced Wednesday to 20 years in prison for kidnapping an underage girl whose mother disproved of the couple’s relationship, U.S. Atty. Eric Melgren announced.

Erick De Paz, 25, pleaded guilty in August to the Feb. 27 kidnapping of a minor girl, Melgren said in a news release.

The girl, whose name and age were not released, was taken from her Wyandotte County home against her will a few days after her mother tried to end the relationship between her and De Paz. On March 3, law enforcement stopped a vehicle at a road block in Stratford, Texas, and found the girl, along with De Paz and two juveniles.

Last month, De Paz’s father, Hector De Paz, 57, was sentenced to four years in prison for his role in the kidnapping.
