Old home town – 100 years ago today

From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 18, 1905: “The Chicago National Bank, the Home Savings Bank and the Equitable Trust, three institutions controlled largely by John R. Walsh, did not open for business today. Millions of dollars are involved and it appears the liabilities run more than $26 million. : Two local women, whose names are being withheld, had their purses snatched last night by a man on Quincy Street at the opening of the alley between Kentucky and Tennessee and at the rear of the Christian Church.”
