Gas prices rise again

Prices raised 15 to 20 cents per gallon

As Gulf Coast residents sort out the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, gas prices around the country, including prices in Lawrence, spiked again today.

In Lawrence, prices jumped about 15 to 20 cents overnight, up to about $2.75 per gallon at most self-service pumps.

At least eight Gulf Coast refineries in the storm’s path stopped or slowed their operations. Others, including one of the largest in the region, Exxon’s Mobile’s refinery in Baton Rouge, La., will resume normal operations.

President Bush is expected to release oil from the National Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
