Brandon Rush’s recruiting saga figures to last a little longer.

“I still don’t know yet,” Rush said Wednesday evening, asked if he’d be attending Kansas University on basketball scholarship.

Rush, a 6-foot-6 guard from Kansas City, Mo., who is considering KU, Indiana and Illinois, several hours later expounded on his situation, issuing a prepared statement, which he provided to Web site scout.com.

In the statement, Rush blamed the holdup on his not yet being cleared to play by the NCAA Clearinghouse.

“My official transcript from Mt. Zion Christian Academy arrived at the NCAA Clearinghouse yesterday (Aug. 23),” Rush said. “I was informed this afternoon (Wednesday) that additional information was still needed before they could proceed with the certification process. That information included obtaining an official 48-h form from Kansas City Career Academy High School.

“Due to the school’s closure, locating the 48-h form official copy will take additional time. Kansas City Career Academy High School closed August 2000. The Clearinghouse will not be able to issue a certification decision until the missing documentation is added to my file. I am still committed to attending college. I will wait the process out.”

Rush was spotted Wednesday in Lawrence, but just to hang out with the KU players and play in pick-up games, not attend classes. He has been unavailable for comment except for a couple of brief conversations on his cell phone.

Though school is a week old today, it is believed Rush still can be granted late enrollment through next week.

“I don’t know,” Rush’s mom, Glenda, said, asked if Brandon would attend KU. “We’re just waiting to see if he gets cleared. It could take a couple more days or a week. We can’t do anything until he gets cleared.”

Judging from the several times Rush has been in town the past week or so, it’s becoming apparent Rush is KU-bound – if he does, indeed, qualify for college. He has not said so officially, but his grandmother repeatedly has said KU is the pick. Indiana received a commitment Wednesday from Cem Dink, a 6-10 forward from Turkey.

He is expected to be eligible this season. Indiana still has a scholarship available if Rush decides to become a Hoosier and sources said Indiana was intent on continuing to recruit Rush.
