Kansas University senior Amy Linnen broke the Penn Relays record in the pole vault when she won the event with a vault of 13 feet, 10.03 inches on Friday in Philadelphia.

Linnen set the KU record in the event with a mark of 13-11.25 at the Kansas Relays last week.

“It’s always a good feeling to set meet records,” Linnen said. “I’ll will now have my name in the record books at the Penn Relays.”

Kansas junior Sheldon Battle dominated the men’s shot put after a winning toss of 64-8.5. Battle sits third on the all-time Kansas list behind legendary teammates Karl Salb and Steve Willhelm. The duo have held the top two spots since 1971. KU sophomore Cody Roberts finished ninth in the event after a throw of 166-04.

“It is great for Sheldon to win at the Penn Relays. He is from New York, and it is the closest his family gets to see him compete,” KU coach Stanley Redwine said.

Battle also finished fourth in the discus at 187-3.

Kansas senior Brooklyn Hann’s was fourth in the triple jump (41-10), and Julius Jiles, Eric Babb, Matt Baysinger and Jeremy Mims were sixth in the Sprint Medley Relay in 3:21.39.

KU also had a few competitors at the Drake Relays on Friday in Des Moines, Iowa. The 4×800 relay team of Mike Rost, Cameron Schwehr, Joshy Madathil and Brandon Hodges finished third in the event in a time of 7:25.24.

“We have had some really good performances at the two meets,” Redwine said. “We can build on these performances and take them into the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.”
