Lawrence Police said Thursday that in the past 24 hours they’d handled:

• 295 calls
• 35 reports
• two burglaries
• five thefts
• three noninjury accidents

Injury Accidents

• A Lawrence man was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Thursday after an early morning accident on Sixth Street.

James Springer, Jr., 22, was headed westbound on Sixth Street near Mississippi Street at 12:02 a.m. when his car moved left of the center lane and struck the left rear of a car driven by Mike Leopold of Cincinnati. Leopold’s car then struck the concrete guard rail.

A condition update on Springer was not available.
