John ‘Jr.’ Clare

Mr. Clare died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2004, at Aldersgate Care Center in Topeka.

He was born Feb. 22, 1921, in Ozawkie, the son of John Thomas and Maude Michael Clare. He was a lifelong resident of Ozawkie, and graduated from Ozawkie High School in 1938.

Mr. Clare was a farmer and stockman. He also worked as a custodian for Jefferson West Public School from 1966 until he retired in 1986. He was a member of Ozawkie Methodist Church, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge 594 and Mt. Pleasant Grange in Ozawkie.

He married Jane Elaine Swinney on May 12, 1956, in Oskaloosa. She died Feb. 28, 1963.

Survivors include a son, Mike, Topeka; a daughter, Judy Clare, Ozawkie; a sister, Ellen Kramer, Ozawkie; and a grandson.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Barnett Funeral Home in Ozawkie. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
