Eudora ? Services for Doris J. Bateson, 63, Tonganoxie, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary Eudora Chapel. Burial will be in Eudora Cemetery.

Mrs. Bateson died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004, at University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.

She was born April 18, 1941, in Eudora, the daughter of Ellsworth and Doris G. Landon Rice.

Mrs. Bateson was a bookkeeper for the Lesh, Bradley and Barrand CPA firm for many years and later worked as a bookkeeper for several area companies including Weaver’s, Cutler Repaving, Kansas Color Press and Cloud Heating. She worked most recently at Orthopedic Casting Labs in Eudora.

She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, La La Lassies Red Hat Society and First Christian Church in Lawrence.

She married Bob Harper in 1956. They divorced. She married John B. Bateson on Nov. 21, 1971, in Tonganoxie. He survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a daughter, Michele Holland, Kansas City, Kan.; a son, Gary Harper, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, William E. Rice, Broken Arrow, Okla., Robert A. Rice, Eudora; a sister, Mary Lou Quinlan, Tonganoxie; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.

One granddaughter died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorials to Hospice of Leavenworth County or KU Oncology Center, sent in care of the mortuary, 1003 John L. Williams Drive, Eudora 66025.
